I. Meeting of Entrepreneurs and Investors at SMARTNET Demo Day
Istanbul, January 28, 2025 – The highly anticipated SMARTNET Demo Day successfully brought together ten innovative startups with accredited angel investors, fostering valuable networking and collaboration opportunities. The event, organized within the scope of the “Technology Transfer with Smart Network and Funnel Model for Commercialization Project (SMARTNET),” took place at the Bilgiyi Ticarileştirme Merkezi (BTM) in Istanbul. Funded through financial cooperation between the European Union and the Republic of Turkey, and implemented under the Competitive Sectors Program of the Ministry of Industry and Technology of Turkey, SMARTNET has played a crucial role in supporting the entrepreneurial ecosystem. Led by Yıldız Technical University in partnership with Hasan Kalyoncu University, Istanbul Technical University, and Gebze Technical University, the project aims to accelerate technology commercialization and enhance Turkey’s competitive edge in the global market. The Demo Day event, a significant milestone for SMARTNET, provided a platform for startups to present their business ideas to potential investors. Ten promising entrepreneurs, selected by the SMARTNET Evaluation Commission, had previously completed 38 modules of basic entrepreneurship training, 60 hours of advanced training, and received 40 hours of mentorship. Their business plans were rigorously assessed before they had the chance to pitch to investors. Angel investors, representing national and international investment networks, engaged in one-on-one meetings with the entrepreneurs, evaluating the feasibility and scalability of their projects. Speaking at the event, SMARTNET Project Coordinator emphasized the importance of such networking events in fostering an environment where groundbreaking ideas can flourish. “The SMARTNET initiative has been instrumental in providing entrepreneurs with the necessary training, mentorship, and support to turn their innovative ideas into successful businesses. Today’s event marks another step toward strengthening Turkey’s entrepreneurial landscape.” Participants expressed their enthusiasm about the networking opportunities and the chance to connect with seasoned investors. Many entrepreneurs highlighted that the feedback they received would significantly contribute to refining their business strategies and securing further investment. SMARTNET continues to support technology-focused entrepreneurship by strengthening the technology transfer ecosystem, fostering intellectual property rights development, and enhancing commercialization and export potential. The project’s ongoing initiatives will further empower startups and contribute to economic growth and innovation.
7th Steering Commitee Meeting was Held
The 7th SMARTNET Steering Committee Meeting took place on January 29, 2025, at Yıldız Technical University, bringing together key stakeholders, including representatives from the Delegation of the European Union to Türkiye, the Ministry of Industry and Technology,Yıldız Technical University, Gebze Technical University, and Hasan Kalyoncu University. During the meeting, the project's current activities were evaluated, and future support mechanisms were discussed to enhance its impact. Participants engaged in productive discussions, outlining strategic plans to further advance the SMARTNET initiative, which continues to foster innovation and collaboration in the field of smart technologies. The SMARTNET project remains committed to strengthening industry-academia cooperation and accelerating technological development in the eco-system through sustainable and forward-thinking approaches.
I. Angel Investor Meeting
One of the project’s key events—the first investor–entrepreneur meeting—will take place on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at the BTM (Bilgiyi Ticarileştirme Merkezi). During the Demo-Day event, nationally accredited angel investors will come together with 10 innovative entrepreneurs who have completed SMARTNET’s 38-module introductory entrepreneurship program and 60 hours of advanced entrepreneurship training, received 40 hours of mentorship support to prepare their business plans, and were selected by the Evaluation Committee. This gathering will allow entrepreneurs to present their business ideas to investors and explore potential collaborations.

Orientation Training for Enterpreneurship Mentoring
The mentoring support, which is among the opportunities offered by SMARTNET to entrepreneurs, is designed for technological initiatives that need guidance in the acceleration, commercialisation, national and international market opening and investor matching stages. In this context, candidates who have a mentoring background or who are suitable for potential mentoring were evaluated, informed through interviews and given comprehensive training to be assigned within SMARTNET.Between 9-18 January 2024 at total (8 days 42 hours) with the experienced expert trainers in the field, trainings were given on topics such as network creation, the role of the mentor, preparing a coordination plan, limits and limitations of mentoring, basic communication and management skills, conflict management, cultural diversity and inclusion, financial management and reporting, technological production, advanced engineering design and business plan development.There are 136 mentors registered in the SMARTNET system.
